This Egypt desert trekking tour is for travellers who want more than temples. Over 10 days and 9 nights you start with the Pyramids in Cairo, then head into the Western Desert through Bahariya Oasis, the White Desert, Farafra, Dakhla and Kharga, before finishing with the monuments of Luxor.
The trekking route
- Cairo: Memphis, the Step Pyramid at Sakkara and the Great Pyramids of Giza on a private tour.
- Bahariya & White Desert (2 nights camping): 4×4 to the Agabat area, then about 35 km of trekking a day across soft sand toward the chalk formations of the White Desert.
- Farafra & Dakhla: desert roses and white rock formations, a visit to the Islamic village of El Qasr, and a night in an oasis-style hut.
- Kharga: around 20 km of trekking to the camp in time for sunset, then a night under the stars.
- Luxor: the Bagawat Cemetery on the way, then the Valley of the Kings, the Colossi of Memnon, Karnak and Luxor Temple before the sleeper train back to Cairo.
